How does Civic Vision Work?

Civic Vision relies on volunteers.

Civic Vision is based on a system of Volunteer Advocates assisted by Volunteer Leaders. Most Volunteer Advocates spend about one hour every week mobilizing community support for local charitable causes by fostering donor relationships in their neighbourhood. Volunteer Leaders might spend two hours per week fostering donor relationships in their own neighborhood while they also  ensure that other Volunteer Advocates in the community have everything they need.

Civic Vision is not a transaction handler.

Civic Vision does not collect donations on behalf of charities. We ask that you make your donation on the charity's website, through a popular online transaction handler or more directly by e-transfer or by mailing a cheque to the charity. This means that Civic Vision doesn't charge charities any fees in association with the processing of your donation.

Civic Vision minimizes fundraising costs.

Ideally, every cent you donate would be spent on the charitable programs that make our communities stronger and more vibrant. In reality, charities have administrative costs and fundraising campaigns incur fundraising costs.

One of those inescapable costs is the issuing of charitable donation tax receipts. Most charities require a minimum donation to justify the costs associated with issuing a charitable tax receipt. Or, charities collect donations through transaction handlers that issue tax receipts for the charity and pass related costs onto the charity or the donor. Civic Vision doesn't play any role in the collection of your donation or the issuing of charitable tax receipts.

Another inescapable cost is the management of volunteers. Currently, Civic Vision's contingency of Volunteer Advocates is so small that it doesn't incur any cost to the charities. In fact, Volunteer Advocates pay for their own fundraising supplies and clothing to ensure that the charities don't incur unnecessary costs. As the size of Civic Vision's contingency of Volunteer Advocates grows, Civic Vision will enable charities to pool their resources so they can continue to minimize fundraising costs and maximize the funding of their charitable programs.

As of now, Civic Vision is driven fully on volunteer power. It is being started by Marcel Anderson, Civic Vision's initial Volunteer Advocate. Marcel has managed fundraising campaigns for over twenty years and has a certificate in Fundraising Management from Toronto Municipal University.
Civic Vision is a volunteer reliant community-level campaign that advocates for local causes by asking people to support a greater variety of vital & resource limited charities.

Civic Vision does not receive donations on behalf of charities, but suggests the best ways to make your donation based on your personal preferences and the charity's parameters.
